QNET Hong Kong staff and family members and QNET Independent Representatives (IRs) gathered for a yearly Staff Social Responsibility programme in partnership with Hong Kong CleanUp. Hong Kong CleanUp was established in 2000, and began as a simple a one-day beach clean-up activity. Since then, it has been renowned as the largest environmental cleanup event in the region. This year’s event, which took place last month, saw more than seventy of our volunteers doing their best to help create awareness for a cleaner and healthier environment.
On the day of the event, QNET volunteers met at the Admiralty MTR Station before setting off to Big Wave Bay. A briefing was held when they arrived, and volunteers were swiftly divided into teams. Next, the teams began to comb through the coastline to collect litter and waste.
The volunteers also made a record of items they have retrieved which that would be converted into data for Hong Kong CleanUp’s publish reports. These reports would be used to educate the public and government officials about the scale and severity of the global marine debris problem. It would also serve to educate the general public to bring an end to littering and highlight the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling materials for environmental preservation.
One of the participants stated that, “This year, our colleagues have brought their children along as well, which is a good sign. We can teach the next generation to care and preserve the environment and stress the importance of giving back to society.”
This is one of the many activities QNET takes part in, in a bid to uphold the principles of RYTHM, short for Raise Yourself to Help Mankind. RYTHM works to create awareness about environmental protection. In addition, the RYTHM Foundation strives to positively impact the lives of the unfortunate and the needy by giving them a platform they need for a successful and fulfilling life.
