The Vijayaratnam Foundation has achieved the goals of its three-phased Maharani Camp with a three-day-two-night camp on leadership development. The camp took place last week at Green View Farm in Kampung Tarun, Negeri Sembilan. It was organised in partnership with the Association of Social Services and Community Development of Gombak and the Hindu Youth Organisation of Port Klang.
After having fulfilled the requirements of the last two phases which concentrated on self-discovery and survival skills, eighteen students from SMK Raja Mahdi, SMK Taman Selayang, SMK Seri Selayang, SMK Darul Ehsan and SMK Sungai Kertas enthusiastically came back to take part in the camp’s final phase. With the guidance and instruction of camp trainer and staff, the students carried out a variety of indoor team-building activities, project planning, public speaking exercises, practical leadership training, and a cyber safety programme.
With all the phases successfully completed, the camp graduates have been able to hone on their newly discovered interests and skills. The camp made a positive impact in helping the graduates come up with their own goals and aspirations for their futures. The camp graduates, who are mostly teenage girls from an underprivileged background, were also encouraged to continuously improve their newly learned skills and put their knowledge to good use by making a difference in their local communities.
One of the young graduates, Kirthanaa Chandar, shared how the valuable lessons gained from the camp has helped her, “Participating in this camp has been very helpful and I love it so much. I have experienced many changes in myself and learned to tackle challenges and become a good leader. I will certainly bring back many wonderful memories of this camp with me.”
